Day 3 (Cont'd) - Wawona Hotel & Mariposa Grove (6/20/10)

After our little adventure at Olmstead Point, we decided to drive to the Wawona Hotel to chill out and have some lunch. We ended up parking ourselves at the little food and golf shop on the corner closest to the street and had a couple of giant hot dogs.

I don't know if they really are good or if we were just hungry but they really really hit the spot in fine fashion! While John relaxed in one of the Adirondack chairs out front I grabbed my camera and ventured over to a patch of lupine and poppies that were making their home in the middle of the parking lot driveway.

After satiating myself with lemonade and rolling around on the ground with the flowers for a little while we drove over to Mariposa Grove and walked around a bit. Never have I seen more gigantic trees in my life, not even at Muir Woods. These trees were incredibly huge!! Astonishingly, considering their size, they have remarkable small pine cones, only about the size of a medium orange.

I didn't get many shots, mostly because the lighting was too hard (it being midday) and because I was kind of pooped, but you get the idea...

This is really the only decent shot I got at Mariposa. This tree was HUGE!!! If I am not mistaking (which of course is always possible) it actually is the same one from the shot below - it appeared the same size as best as I could tell.
