Day 2 - Arriving at Yosemite (6/19/10)

Well, after having a lovely breakfast with Dad and Poline we hit the road and drive 4 1/2 hours up to our B&B (The Houndstooth Inn, if anyone is interested) near Yosemite. After unloading our stuff we decided to take a drive into the park, get our weekly pass and see what the place looked like, sans snow. As you may recall the last time were were there, it was covered in the most beautiful layer of snow and mist. We quickly discovered that the Stimulus money was hard at work tweaking much of the roads into the park which caused some delays. And, the park being immersed in tourist season, the roads were that much more crowded. However, our veins flowing with excitement we were undeterred and slowly and patiently wended our way into the park and snagged the first viable parking space we could find. We grabbed quick, but expensive salads at the Ahwahnee Hotel (in the cheap place) then walked around a little. On the way back to the car, we saw a doe grazing on the tall grass. We then went to Tunnel View and decided to stop for some obligatory sunset shot of Yosemite Valley. Here are the only shots from our brief visit worth posting (many many more to follow, so stay tuned!!)...

You can't see it really well in this shot, but there was a big cloud bank between the mountains that looked like a giant wave rolling it - it was pretty cool!

This is a shot of the moon rising over Glacier Point.

Here is the little doe we saw grazing in the valley.

This gives you an idea of the scale of this place - not only the mountains, but the traffic! LOL The highest point is Glacier Point, which overlooks the whole valley in spectacular fashion.

Here is the sun setting over the valley. At the very back you can see iconic Half Dome, bridalveil falls in the middle and El Capitan on the left. For this shot I used a graduated warming filter to accentuate the warmth of the sun. Unfortunately it makes the sky look kind of weird too - I'm still learning!
