HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
A few hours after my feet recovered (to a degree) from all the walking tot he Golden Gate Bridge, we drove to Oakland and boarded a cruise ship for our New Years Eve tour of the bay and midnight fireworks display.
Our Last Full Day in San Francisco
On our last full day in San Francisco we were supposed to meet up with Dad, Poline, Suzanne, Ryan, Seneca and Max. Unfortuantely they were all sick so me missed seeing them. It turned out to be a really long day. We had walked to the Ferry Building where we were supposed to meet up with them, but when we talked to them and plans changed we decided to start walking. We walked from the Ferry Building (Pier 1) to Pier 19 where we picked up an old tram that looked like it was donated from Italy because all of the signs in it were in Italian. We got off at Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf area, then continues along the shoreline to the base of the Golden Gate bridge and almost halfway back again before my feet could take no more and we took a cab back to the hotel. All in all we estimated that we walked about 15 miles. Our dogs sure felt it too!

This is the interior of the Ferry Building. It has a lot of really nice shops in it and a small walkway out the back facing the bay.

Some trees over looking the bay from the top of the hill near Fort Mason.
The marina on the north side of Fort Mason.
Some really cute row houses in facing the marina. This must go for some serious coin because they were in an awesome location and really old, cute and well maintained!
In the park next to the Golden Gate Bridge.
Sometimes you find some really amaingly cool things in the smallest and unlikeliest places. I just love dewey spider webs.
Ahhhh, the Golden Gate Bridge - the fog finally lifted.
More mist through the trees as we headed up the hill and toward a bluff overlooking the bridge.
A grove of evergreens and eucalyptus trees.
This is an old bunker in the bluff on the south side of the Golden Gate Bridge.
You've gotta love the cool patterns in the branches of the eucalytpus trees.
The fog comes back to shroud the Golden Gate Bridge.

Ok, I have yet to determine the significance of these stacked rocks. Not knowing I assumed it was a good-luck thing and, being superstitious/paranoid, I decided I needed to erect one of my own to pay homage so the gods would smile favorably on me and the family. They looked really cool and interesting along the shore with the low waves bathing their bases.
Back in San Francisco
When we returned to San Francisco we checked back into the Hilton and this time we had a great view of the bay and Coit Tower.
From the hotel we walked down to Fisherman's Wharf. We tried to catch a cable car, but they were all packed. We ended up having the most fantastic dinner at Castagnola's seafood restaurant. Try the Ciopinno, it is AMAZING!!

A nice shot of the marina.
More marina.
We walked on this long dock where they had a bunch of historic ships, this was one of them.
The Golden Gate Bridge in the sunset.

Another view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the pier with the setting behind the hills.
Alas, GHirardelli Square - the meca of North American chocolate - I highly recommend the Brownie Sundae with all dark chocolate. Mmmmmm, nummy delicious!
